mikey1278 I’ve been wondering lately about term limits. Should elected officials be restricted to a certain number of terms, or should it be up to voters to decide if they stay in office? I can see both sides, but I’m curious what others think.
sunset89 I think term limits are necessary. Too many politicians stay in power for decades, and at that point they stop serving the people and just protect their own careers. A constant flow of new voices would help keep the government fresh.
mike_d But doesn’t that also mean you’re forcing out the ones who are actually good at their job? If the voters want to keep re-electing someone, why stop them? Seems like it takes away a little bit of choice.
coffee_lover I agree with @mike_d. Imagine if we had an amazing mayor or governor who brought real improvements to their community, and then they get kicked out just because the clock ran out. Doesn’t make sense.
bluejay77 Experience matters too. Governing isn’t something you master in one term. Forcing turnover could mean we end up with a revolving door of inexperienced leaders.
